MILLERSBURG- Betty P. Miller age 83, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at the Kepler Home in Elizabethville. She was born in Halifax the daughter of the late Harry and Blanche Davies Bower. She was the widow of Clifford S. Miller, Jr. and preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. In spite of her deafness Betty was a leader in her community serving as an officer in the American Legion Auxiliary and a Lioness in the Halifax club. She taught her family to volunteer by making and selling enough Easter Eggs to outfit the church choir with new gowns. Her leadership brought 4-H clubs to northern Dauphin County.
She taught her children the rewards of hard work with her truck patch and when they needed money for college, she opened a day care center which she operated for many years.
Her deafness forced her to drop out of High School; but after getting her GED she proudly graduated from Central Penn with an associate degree at 47 years of age. She worked at Central Penn Business School and The Naval Depot for several years but promotions were denied her because of her deafness so she started her own business - Cliff’s Corner in Millersburg. She also worked at Susquehanna Lutheran Village and managed apartments and rental homes in Halifax and Millersburg.
Survivors include a daughter Nancy Miller-Noll and her husband Curtis Miller of Bellefonte; two sons Clifford Miller III and his wife Sue of Millersburg and Jay Miller and his wife Delores of Halifax; Grandchildren Drea Noll, Jane'l Miller Albright, Duane, Lisa, Sam and Lori Miller; six great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 17 from 10-11:00 am at the Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home in Millersburg. Services will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Dale Parker officiating. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg
